Sports team which sport the Red Colour
What is it about the colour red? Almost anything that is red in colour seems to attract attention, holds you in awe and portrays belligerence. The colour red seems to envelope its wearer in an aura of invincibility and assured success. These thoughts made me google it up.
I googled these exact words. "Sports teams and the colour red" and what have you? There actually has been research on this topic at the University of Durham in England. It seems that sports teams which don the red seems to enjoy a higher degree of long term success. I am not providing the links on this article because I want you to google this and see for yourself.
Formula 1 - Talking about sports teams, lets start with Formula One. Much as I hate them, Ferrari has been a dominant F1 team ever since Formula One has existed. There is almost no race day when you don't see those (goddamn) Ferraris on the podium. Even McLaren had a hint of red on its nose cone and todays McLarens actally have a red front and rear wing. McLaren's winningest seasons came when the team as McLaren Honda donned white and red - after Honda and Japan's sporting colors.
How about the English Premier League? Manchester United won the EPL again yesterday. Red.
North American sports - Moving onto basketball. Remember Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan? Red. "Red" Wings. Red. How about College Football? Although I am a Michigan fan, I cant help pointing out. Ohio State, red. South Cal, red. Alambama, Crimson, sort of red. Arkansas. The list goes on. Baseball? "Red" Sox.
With the Olympics around the corner, I don't have to remind you of the sporting colors of Russia and China. Heck, when I was in school, students were divided into four houses (similar to Gryffindor, Slytherin..) We had Red, Blue, Yellow and Green houses. Guess who won year after year? Red. I was in Blue even then.
Personally I don't like the colour red. With some digging up one can easily point out teams which wear red but don't win so often. Yes, there are sporting colours beyond red. Blue and Yellow or should I say Maize and Blue. Lets quickly analyze teams with Blue and Yellow.
Blue - Detroit Pistons, Patriots, Michigan Wolverines, LSU Tiger (almost blue), Florida Gators, Renault F1, Williams F1, the Italian Football team. Hey the Indian cricket won the 20-20 Cricket World Cup in Blue!!
Yellow - Packers, Lakers, the Australian cricket team, most of the best cyclists in the world usually wear yellow.
Many of the teams with Blue or Red as primary colours actually have yellow as a secondary, LSU, USC, the German football team. A lot of times these teams also have a mix with the colour white.
So what is the moral of the story. Red teams win. They win a lot. But they are hated almost as much. Teams with Blue and yellow and white also win. But when they win they win with pride and respect. Ever heard of respect for the OSU team?

Why does my favourite team always have to lose?
I dont know if this happens to everybody, but my favourite sports teams always loose. Most of them loose after having a fabulous season. Chokers.....
1. Formula 1-McLaren
2006 was the worst season for McLaren in 2 decades. No wins at all. 2005 was turning out to be a dream season before they blew it all with engine failures.
2. American Football-Michigan Wolverines
I study at the University of Michigan and so I am a Wolverine fan by default. After a flawless season they loose to the Ohio State Buckeyes (our biggest rival ever) in the last league match. Then they loose out in the vote to Florida Gators. Finally they loose in the Rose Bowl to the USC Trojans (University of Southern California).
All said and done "Once a Wolverine always a Wolverine." Go Blue!!!!
3. Football- Germany and then France
I had big hopes that Germany would win the 2006 World Cup atleast. Once they lost all hopes rested on "Les Bleus" but even they blew it, that too to Italy. Grrr....
4. Cricket-Indian Cricket Team
Do I need to say any more?
5. WRC (World Rally Championship) - Ralliart Mitsubishi
They werent even in the fray in 2006 because they didnt participate. Hopefully 2007 holds hope after years and years of dismal performances. They are the only red coloured team I like although I avoid the colour red.
Well as always there is a silver lining.
1. Hockey-Bangalore Lions
Yes we got thrashed by Sher-e-Jallandher but just see how we pounded Maratha Warriors. Woohoo, atleast one of my teams is winning.
2. Rugby-New Zeland All Blacks
World Champs!!! I love their sports colours too. All Black!!!!
Finally my favourite sports teams rank up like this: -
1. McLaren
2. Michigan Wolverines
3. Bangalore Lions
4. Germany Football Team and France Football Team
5. New Zealand All Blacks
6. Ralliart Mitsubishi
Lets keep the Indian cricket team out of this. They dont deserve to be on anybody's favourite sports teams list. B*****ds!!
